Baby turned 5 months old the other day. We didn’t do a full, sit down evaluation with him, as we have in months past. Instead we relished in playing with him all day. He did enjoy a late-night trip to Waffle House where I got to have a 5 waffle in his honor.
Even though we didn’t do the evaluation with him, we have noticed quite a few things different in just this last month.
Baby now sits up really well on his own. More and more he no longer “tripods”. He still loves sitting up. He enjoys playing with toys, opening books, and generally entertaining himself in this upright position. He likes to tell us all about what he’s doing, what he’s thinking, and (of course) how unfair it is that we are eating and drinking out of cups. He tries to drink from a cup sometimes, too.
Baby also stands up at the ottoman and enjoys walking with the help of Papa or Mama.
Baby responds to his name more often than not. It also appears that he is really beginning to recognize himself in the mirror. When we call or say his name he will look directly at us (mostly). We do believe that he sometimes has selective hearing, but I guess all kids do.
Baby has become so much more vocal and animated. Baby loves talking and making noises. He enjoys the ‘conversation’ that we have with him and although much of what he tells us is complicated by his drooling all over everything, we love it anyway. He also loves to stick out his tongue and attempt to talk to us that way. At times, Baby still has an attitude, although he is learning that there are things we will not allow him to do, like play with our phone or the computer while he’s drooling.
Baby has even taken a bath in the ‘big tub’ by himself.
Baby absolutely loves trees and leaves. Every time we go outside, he is drawn to looking at the trees. We often will let him touch a tree or some leaves. Once he even brought me a stick!
Baby is still thoroughly enjoying breast milk, or booby milk as we say, and has stopped abusing me while he’s feeding. Baby does get it all over his face at times and still falls asleep drunkenly in my arms. Baby doesn’t always nap during the day. This is probably because he fights sleep so badly in the evening and at night that he ends up sleeping half the day away.
Baby will babble away to himself, the ceiling, the walls, or toys sometimes for up to an hour.
Those are the major things we’ve noticed this last month. Baby sure is growing fast. It’s amazing to see the changes in him even just a month ago, let alone when he was first born.
