Lately, Baby Boy has been sleeping in rather late. It’s often not been until 11:30 or after that he chooses to wake up. One might ask why I allow him to continue sleeping. The answer is simple. He’s a baby and there’s really not much going on. If he needs to or chooses to sleep that late, fine by me. Now, there are days/times where we need to be up early because we have things to do. Usually though, those things can hold off for a few hours. Even on those days when I don’t want them to hold off for a few hours, I will get him up because more than likely if he wants to keep sleeping he’ll sleep in the car or wrap while we’re out. In other words, I don’t sweat it.
Some mornings I get up and do a few things, before going back to bed. Often that going back to bed with correspond with him needing to nurse again, so it works out. Other mornings, I may sleep in for a bit before trying to catch up on some reading or the news. I have crocheted in bed before, though not of late. Either way, no matter what I do, allowing Baby to sleep in for so long is worth it, since this is what I get to see.
This is one of the most delightful times, at least for me. I take an extra few moments to relish in his joy of being up, my joy of him, and our collective joy of greeting each other once again. On the weekends, it’s even better because we all wake up together. To see Hun in these moments is just as precious, if not more so, for me. I love seeing Hun and Baby interacting together. The way they play together is just delightful, not to mention it gives mommy a bit of time to her own body. I think we can all agree that sometimes mommies need a few body minutes to themselves and we’ll take them when we can 🙂
Playing with Baby Boy once he wakes is so much fun. He genuinely enjoys being awake and it never fails, he Always smiles, laughs, coos, and freely reaches for us for hugs and kisses. Watching him in those moments is so much more fun than anything I’ve ever experienced.
How do you spend your mornings with baby? What’s your favorite part of morning?
