We’re always working on doing a more and more natural things in our home. We believe in staying away from as many toxins as possible, thereby enhancing our overall health and wellness.

A couple years ago, we switched to Cal Ben Five Star Soap to fulfill our cleaning needs. We had typically stayed away from many commercial household cleansers, but there were some around until we ordered our Cal Ben’s. We chose this company because of it’s lack of synthetic materials and toxins in their ingredients.

We’ve been using Cal Ben’s these last years and it’s been wonderful. We never feel a build-up on our skin or in our hair. We’re always confident that when we’ve washed our clothing, dishes, or bodies, we haven’t increased our exposure to harmful chemicals, additives, and fragrances. This was especially important to us as we welcomed Baby Boy into our lives, as we knew we wanted to give him the best start we could.

These are the products we’ve purchased and have been happy with.

We also choose not to use plastic containers to store any food items. Since we still have store-bought spices, those are in plastic containers, but not much of anything else. We do keep our reverse osmosis water in plastic containers, for now. I will also put our homemade electrolyte drink in old plastic juice containers, but they’re never heated, so I don’t stress it too much. Eventually, we’ll transition to all glass.

One other important switch we made about 2 years ago is toothpaste. We (read I) hadn’t done enough research into natural beauty care products to do much in that department until fairly recently. But our toothpaste has had some improvement in the last couple of years. Originally, we used a baking soda and filtered water mix!

Now, for those that are thinking, “baking soda is so abrasive”. I also was in that camp of, should we use baking soda because I’ve heard it’s abrasive and I’d like not to cause (further) damage to our teeth. Well, check out this scale here. Turns out, that most commercially produced toothpastes are more harmful than just the chemicals put into them.

I now make our toothpaste with baking soda, coconut oil, calcium powder, trace minerals, and some essential oils. It’s so easy to mix up, literally taking me about 5 minutes from start to finish. And, thankfully, I can use alter the amount of coconut oil to easily change the consistency.

To finish our dental care, I also make a mouthwash using filtered water, calcium powder, trace minerals, and essential oils.

Because both of our dental care products are homemade, I can alter the taste easily, depending on the essential oils I use. And, again, this is so much cheaper than buying natural dental care products or using commercial dental care products. Plus, I don’t have to worry about finding dental care products that contain the neuro-toxin flouride (link here)!

So, these are some of the ways we’ve begun to do things more naturally!!
