So, this is post 2 for NaBloPoMo and since I’m not sure how to relate “fall” at this time of night (or morning to be exact), I’m going with the prompt for flavor(s).

Do I have a favorite autumn flavor? I’d have to honestly say, none that I can think of. There aren’t any specific autumn traditions that I have in my life. Once upon a time, before I had a family of my own (Hun and Baby), I might have had fleeting dreams of creating traditions. I never knew where to start and usually I preferred to just be with close friends or a few family members, so it wasn’t a big deal. Hence I never created any. I tend to view most seasons as just what they are, not necessarily tied to any other thing.

When fall arrives, I do recognize that the recognized holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas aren’t far off, with New Year’s following in quick pursuit. But, since I don’t put much stock in the day of the recognized holiday, they actually hold nothing more than a signpost pointing to the end of the year.

Back to the flavors business, though. I do enjoy a good sweet potato, or sweet potato pie, apple pie, and even pumpkin pie. In fact, I am more likely than not going to attempt make my very first ever in my life pumpkin pie. Hun really enjoys pumpkin pie and I have already offered to try to my hand this much revered pie. It’s also quite possible, I may also attempt delve into an apple pie, just for the fun of it. Maybe these will become a tradition of sorts for us!

A well roasted turkey is always good, add to that some gravy, mashed potatoes (no skins for this meal), maybe some baked macaroni and cheese, a bit of dressing, and some cranberry sauce (with berries) and to me, you have a wonderful fall meal!

One of my sisters will dole out a meal similar to this at times. I think she’s trying to incorporate some family traditions that have fallen by the wayside in some ways within our family. She does a wonderful job of it too, not asking for help in the preparations, just doing it. I’m grateful to her for such an activity. I never chose to incorporate that role into my life. We all have our reasons for doing what we do (or don’t). Hey! I bet I could bake a pie and take it to one of these gatherings. This particular sister is about to give birth in a few weeks, so I’m sure some help this time would be ever more appreciated. So much for the surprise factor, since I just wrote it out for the world to see here in this blog 🙂

Nonetheless, upon reflection, I suppose I do have some favorite autumn flavors!!

What about you?
