I love our house. I mean, I really do. I enjoy making it ours and putting our own special mark and touch on it. My top two awesome things about our house – our ability and desire to DIY and having such a good structural base. I honestly believe it really can pay to have an older house.

As we continue to live in our space and plan ways to improve our house, we’re on the lookout for ideas and supplies.  We want to make our house more functional for us.  We also want to turn ideas and dreams into realities.

One of the ways I’d really like to improve our home is by adding light in a couple rooms. There are good windows in both our bedroom and the boys’ room.  Still, it’s a little drab back there. Our room has 2 good windows and the boys’ room has 1.  Yet, the rooms don’t really get as much sun as other parts of the house. This is partly due to the great trees out front and partly due to the sun’s direction. Nonetheless, it can also sometimes be cooler back there. That can be a drag in winter, just in case you’re wondering.

One thing, I know for sure we’re looking to do is add a ceiling fan in those rooms.  Those ceiling fans can not only keep it cool and comfortable at night, but can also be a way to add light.  I’ve recently come across ceiling fans from warehouselighting.com.

And since I’m thinking about that back part of the house, I’ll mention that I’m thinking of adding a mirror somewhere in the hallway as a way to add a bit of light.  There are enough windows that receive light, just adding a mirror to reflect that light can be both stylish and functional.

In the living room, we usually get awesome light during the day because of that big window I love so much.  The kitchen isn’t much different, between the patio door and the window over the sink.  Yet, I’m at a loss for the counters.  Sometimes, when cooking, things get a bit dark and I’d really like to have some under cabinet lights.  Although an easy upgrade, we haven’t decided what to do about the cabinets, so that means no under cabinet lights for me just yet.

But, we’ve definitely considered adding in some recessed or pendant lights over the island.  And, we’re going to swap out the fan in the kitchen for the light in the dining space.

And, in terms of the living room, we just need light for evenings and at night.  I’d like to get another nice floor lamp, as well as a good lamp or sconce for the reading corner.

Thankfully, www.warehouselighting.com has many lighting choices. Plus, they have LED lights, which is all we use.  I don’t know about you, but sometimes one-stop shopping is desireable and warehouselighting.com just might be one of those places.

Are you in the market for lighting improvements in your home? What are your go-to resources for lighting options? And, please share with me your favorite style of lighting.
