There’s no doubt you’ve noticed the upswing in video production on every major social media channel there is. And, if you’ve followed along with my journey and our family adventures for any length of time, you’ve also noticed I have yet to get on the video bandwagon. Truthfully, I’m afraid.

More accurately, I’m afraid I won’t be able to handle anything that comes a result of me doing video. I’m afraid my everyday normalcy isn’t up to par. See, I don’t wear makeup, I do the minimum (and most comfortable) when it comes to clothing, and our house isn’t in show off form. So, in other words, I’m afraid others will judge me harshly. And my insecurities have certainly surfaced, just with the thought of video. Yet, I understand there’s value in video and that many people aren’t mean and nasty.

I also know there’d likely be much more support than judging if I were to start doing some video, I’m willing to think and ponder and wring my hands all in an attempt to prepare myself for such vulnerability. As a result, there are a few tools I am considering for now or in the future as I, too, begin to expand my skills and keep up with the trends in this online world.

Currently, I have the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, which has some pretty great picture and video abilities.

I would like a microphone though and this M audio microphone from Musician’s Friend, looks like a good option. I love the idea of simple USB plug-in, because I don’t want to fiddle with a bunch of things just to get a decent sound.

I’m not really sure I need an additional microphone, but it’s something to consider. In looking forward, I’d like a good microphone because I’d like to do more than just blogging. Or at least I think I will!

I know that I need to just go ahead and do some kind of video. I did one a few weeks ago. Well, it was probably more than a few weeks ago. I’ve watched other people jump into doing video. So, now I just need to do it, as well. In fact, I have a note for myself to do at least 2 videos live on Facebook sometime this month. So, if you’re not following me over there already, now would be a good time to do so. That way, you won’t miss my live video this month. I’m sure the videos I do will be interesting, if for no other reason you can laugh with me as I nervously delve into the world of video.

Tell me, have you done video?  How did you prepare?  What tools did you use?  What’s your favorite social media platform for video?

I can relate to the issues: we all face these, to a great degree! LOL. Perhaps I can help you change your point of view on the topic of make-up. This is how I see it: You consider it probably reasonable to get good electronics to get good sound quality and light, right… ?! For video, makeup is merely an EXTENSION of that equipment. It isn’t you. It isn’t cheating or anything. It’s no more, and no less, a great tool to get the camera to reflect your facial features properly and to present you in a way so that others will look at your video. Nothing personal. Beauty has nothing to do with it, it’s more about highlighting features and colours and reflecting light properly, and also so that the face in view will help people to listen to the story and be encouraged. The kind of makeup that works well for video is not to be worn on the street: way too outlandish. It’s makeup for the camera. That’s it. Can you look at it that way?

From this perspective, I do think that makeup has a place when it comes to video. I truly wouldn’t know where to start, since I don’t currently wear Any makeup. Yet, it’s not something I wouldn’t consider at some point in the future.

Thanks for stopping by and providing your thoughts and insight regarding makeup on camera! 🙂
