If I thought last month was busy, this month has been even busier. October was definitely crazy, I’m still reeling from all the things that have happened and all that’s about to happen. So, because things were so wild and crazy in October, let me just get right to it.

Seeing

*Hurricane Matthew created quite an uproar on the east coast at the beginning of the month. Some of the pictures showing the devastating effects of the storm have really affected me. In fact, Hun and I have been in conversation of ways to help besides just sending money to a large, national organization or charity.

*We also had a fun birthday party with family in October. We now have another 3 year-old in the family!

*Hun’s birthday was also in October!  We had a very, very low-key celebration at home. Hun isn’t really big on birthday celebrations and no manner of talking with him will convince him otherwise. I did make him a cake and we enjoyed a nice homemade, Spanish inspired dinner!

Look at this beauty just waiting for some scrumptious homemade buttercream frosting!

With the cooler temperatures, I’ve seen my share of warm blankets and of course snuggles on the couch!

*Monkey Boy and I both have seen quite a bit of of screen time lately. Between me blogging, preparing for other exciting changes (keep reading), and general time, we’ve spent tons of time in front of a screen. I’m definitely going to address this in November. Well, at least when it comes to Monkey Boy.

Hearing

*This month I’ve listened to a number of podcasts. I’ll say I listen to at least 4 a week. Sometimes more, it just depends on what I’m listening to and what I’m doing. I can’t listen while I write, but I can listen while doing various household tasks.

*I’ve had my fill of whining in October though. Between Monkey Boy asking about playing with water outside when it’s 65 degrees and the bout of colds the boys and I had at the end of the month, I’m done with the whining.

*Oh, I almost forgot one more great thing we listened to this month. A marching band. We visited with a friend nearby and she invited us to go to a college parade with her family one weekend. So, we were able to both see and hear the marching band that cool crisp morning!

Doing

In October, this is where the most exciting things happened! We have so much going on, I’m not sure where to start.

*First, I landed a new job. It’s work-at-home position and currently only seasonal, but there’s definitely been prep work. I’ll be taking calls in a virtual call center environment. I’ve actually never done this kind of work before, so it’s new to me. I’m a little intimidated, but the training session is 8 weeks, which should give me plenty of time to learn. We’ve had to prepare a computer harddrive for my use while working, as they require Windows 8.1 or higher. (Yes, I’m still on 7, don’t judge. I like it better.)

*Because of this job, the office is in a bit better shape now. My organizing heart sings about how orderly the office is now. It’s not completely decorated, but all the big parts are done and the piles and piles of trash, old mail, and random papers are gone! (Stay tuned, as I’ll reveal our new/updated office soon.)

*Oh and because of the job, we went looking for childcare. Turtle Boy still nurses a few times a day, so we opted for childcare in our home, i.e. a nanny. This is such a big Big thing for me. Finding childcare out of our home maybe wouldn’t prove as difficult, but there are so many pieces of that option I’m uncomfortable with or that are actually more of a hassle due to some of our beliefs. Keep your fingers crossed for us we find childcare in time and I can start working to contribute income for our family!

*Another Big thing has been my preparing to attend my first ever blogging conference! I will be going to Atlanta, Ga to attend #blogalicious8, from Be Blogalicious. I’m incredibly excited! A little overwhelmed and quite nervous, but overall excited! This is a great opportunity to meet fellow bloggers and business owners, make new connections and friends, as well as meet some brands. I’m excited for all the events taking place that weekend, the incredible learning opportunities, and doing more to reach my own blogging and business goals!

*I’ve also spent quite a bit more time connecting and networking with others in October. Whether through Facebook (link here) or attending some Twitter chats. A few of my favorite chats to attend (most) every week are:

#ibachat (Thur & 8:30p EST) and #influencehour (bi-weekly Tues & 8p EST – next is 11/8)

*I’ve also done quite a bit of cooking this month. Now, this isn’t much different from most other months, but what is different is all of the new things. I now make caramel. It’s so quick and simple and I can’t wait to share with you my process. Plus, I’ve made 2 things which always seemed so daunting to me – homemade noodles and homemade artisan yeast bread!

I’m so over the moon happy that I made both and they turned out quite delicious. Of course, I didn’t snap a picture in time, but trust me, there will be pictures! I can’t wait to make these recipes again.

Reading

Somehow, even with all that went on in October, I even managed to read a bit.

*It’s taking me a long time, but I’m reading through Brene Brown’s first book, I Thought It Was Just Me. Thanks to our library for repeatedly lending me the book so I can finish!

*I also checked out This Is Where It Ends from our library and I’m reading through it as well.

*Plus, I started listening to Brene Brown’s Rising Strong.

I’m happy to have gotten some reading done this month and hope to keep it up in November, too. I’m also hoping, somehow, that November won’t be as busy, though between starting work and upcoming holidays I’m not sure it’ll be possible.

What did you see, hear, do, and read in October? Was your October busy, too? Do you know any great Twitter chats I need to join? What about podcasts to listen to? What exciting things are happening in your life?
